How to spend a day in Tequila, Jalisco - Mexico

Which came first, the drink or the town? Fun fact: It was the town.

Tequila is only about a 1 hour drive from Guadalajara, Jalisco. 

We started our day by walking down a few streets to get to the center of town. Right off the back, I could tell it was a cute little town. 

Once we got to the center of the town, we headed for breakfast. We had some enchiladas from La Antigua Casona. The restaurant is part of the hotel, which was Spanish style and very nice. The customer service was exceptional and the food was even better. 

We then headed out to do some shopping and explore the city center. Make sure to wear sunscreen and a hat as it is VERY HOT in the summer. I used this one from Amazon. 

The town is full of tourists, so you will see large fun styled tour buses all around.

At around noon, we hopped on our red chili bus that took us to our Tequila tasting tour. We took a tour from La Rienda tequila factory. I wish they had let us try more tequila, but it was fun to see how they make tequila.

At the end of the tour, they take you to the field where they grow the agave plant. There, you get time to admire the beautiful view, take photos with a horse, or purchase drinks to hydrate from the heat. 

After our tour, we headed out for a late lunch at a nearby town at Mariscos EL Carnal. They served the most delicious sea food and had live music. 

Then we walked right next door to the famous Cantaritos El Guero. Here we enjoyed their LARGE drinks (they pour a WHOLE tequila bottle into EACH cantarito - they make the drink right in front of you and you get to keep the cantarito). We danced all afternoon with the multiple live bands. Without a doubt, the highlight of the day!
