How to spend the day in Solvang, CA
The cute little Danish town of Solvang has so much to do. You could easily spend a whole weekend here!
We started our morning at Good Seed Coffee. This boutique coffee shop was really cute with plenty of seating. I really loved the minimalistic décor and style. There is even a small bench in the front of the shop where you can sit down under the green patio and enjoy the view of the town. We went during the holiday season and there was a parade going on at the time so it was a great spot to sit and watch the parade as it went by.
We were really excited to try the moon milk latte and it did not disappoint! The beverages not only taste good, but they were so pretty. We enjoyed their caprese toast. I say "we" because even though my husband said he "wasn't hungry", he ended up taking half of my breakfast because it was so good.
We enjoyed our drink breakfast while we watched the parade. It was such a relaxing yet entertaining way to start our day.
Thank you Good Seed Coffee for having us. I am so happy I found your shop, I cant wait to return.
The shop is in a perfect location because there is so much to do around there. We got to walk around the shops and check out all the pretty details of the town. Everything was decorated for Christmas, so it felt like a movie.
I had always wanted to ride a tandem bike and my wish finally came true! We rented one from Wheel Fun Rentals for $25 an hour which wasn't to bad. We were able to ride to Old Mission Santa Inez and explore the pretty garden.
After exploring downtown, we headed towards our wine tasting experience at Rusack Vineyards. The winery is by reservations only, so be sure to plan ahead of time. It is completely worth it as you are greeted with a glass of wine and a warm welcome. Then, you are seated in the beautiful shaded patio with the view of the vineyards.
They have indoor seating and what looked like private rooms for small group events. The winery was quiet and peaceful but not boring which is something I really admired. Its the perfect place to enjoy the afternoon with friends or on a date. I truly did not want to leave! We were able to enjoy our wine flight and charcuterie board while we talked about how nice the view was. You can get drinks by the glass, bottle, or choose one of their three wine flights. The one I got had both whites and reds which is perfect because I like to try variety. I can honestly say that they were ALL really good and was not able to pick a favorite.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and the location is dog friendly. There are wine tasting rooms throughout downtown, but if I was you, I would skip them and give yourself the chance to experience your wine tasting out in the vineyards like we did. You will not regret it!
Thank you Rusack Vineyards for having us. Your wine is delicious and your property is oh so beautiful!
It quickly became time for dinner, so we went back to downtown to eat. Solvang is the Danish town in USA so it was only fitting to try Danish food. We decided to eat at Solvang Restaurant. There was a huge line out in front. At first, I thought was for the dinner, but then we realized that the line was for the to-go counter. They have the option to take their round Danish pancakes called Aebleskiver on the go so many people were in line for that. After dinner, we got the Aebleskiver for dessert and I could see what the fuss was about, they were pretty good!
By this point it was dark, so we walked around a bit to let our food digest, which we got to see the pretty lights all around the town.
We were headed to Ojai the next morning (blog coming soon!), so we headed over to our hotel that was about an hour away at the historical Glen Tavern Inn.
