Things to do in Redding, California

I had been wanting to go to Redding for a very long time to see the beautiful waterfalls. I am so glad we finally made the trip happen! Redding was so fun and a trip I will never forget.

Saturday

You can fly to Sacramento, San Francisco, or the Redding Regional Airport, but we decided to drive instead sicne we knew we were going to be needing a car over there anyway. We started our trip from SoCal super early on Saturday morning to beat the long weekend traffic. It took us about 9 hours to get there which wasn't too bad.

After grabbing groceries and freshening up at our airbnb, we headed out to Moseley Family Cellars. The tasting room is located in downtown on Pine street and has plenty of free parking available. I loved that the location is a home (the oldest home in Redding) because it gives the winery a cozy feel. The Moseley Winery saying is "Come as guests, leave as family" and they really live up to their name. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a huge smile and warm welcome. The modern/farmhouse décor makes the place look sophisticated yet comfortable at the same time, I loved it! Although they don't have food themselves, there is a restaurant next door where you can order food from and they bring it directly to you which was so convenient. We got some steak chimichurri tacos with some fries to enjoy with our wine tasting. To be honest, I can usually pick out two or three wines that I love from a flight at other wineries, but this time it was so hard to decide which one I liked best because they were all so good! No joke! The service was excellent and we loved the wine so much we had to take a couple of bottles home with us. It was a perfect introduction to Redding and highly recommend everyone to come out and try it. When you leave the winery, you will feel part of the Moseley Family.

Thank you Marty and Moseley Family Cellars for having us! The wine, the food - Everything was delicious and we had such a fun time! We are grateful to have met you and hope to come back in the near future!

We then headed over to Taste and See Creamery for some dessert. This was the coolest ice cream shop I have ever visited. The shop offers all kinds of shakes, ice cream, and coffee. It is the perfect place to grab some ice cream with friends or coffee to study. The location even had a drive-thru which is so convenient. My husband is a tough critic, so when he said he wanted a second shake because it was really good, I was impressed. Although I am not vegan, I was able to sample the Vegan Oreo Ice Cream and really liked it so I ordered it on a yummy cone. They also offer ice cream cookie sandwiches, so there is something on the menu everyone will like. I wish we had one of these back at home!

Thank you Taste and See Creamery for having us. Your shop is so pretty and we had a great time!

We wanted to check out the Sundial Bridge but it started to rain so we ended up calling it a night. We were exhausted from traveling and laughing all day, so it worked out anyway. I hope to see the bridge in person next time we return to Redding. They even have a scavenger hunt that you can do.

Sunday

After breakfast, we headed over to Six Rivers Rafting for our White Water Rafting adventure. They provide everything for the trip (water suit, helmet, paddles, etc.), all you need is your water shoes. Our guide was awesome and showed us the ropes. Halfway through the day, we got the opportunity to jump off a small cliff and they provided snacks which was nice. Overall, this was a lot of fun. Prepare to get wet!

On our way back from rafting, we stopped by Crystal Creek Falls. The hike is paved, accessible, and can accommodate strollers without a problem. There was plenty of parking and restrooms available (fee to park). You can view the falls from the top of the waterfall, or you can go down and go in the water. Either way, you get a beautiful view.

We then headed back to our airbnb, fired up the grill, blasted some music, and had a BBQ in the backyard. It was so nice to relax in the jacuzzi after dinner and just laugh about the fun day we had.

Monday

We got up bright and early to grab some coffee from Theory Coffee Roasters. They have a few locations in Redding but we were able to see the one on California Street. The coffee was delicious and the shop served amazing smelling pastries. There was plenty of space and had a modern feel. It's not a surprise that they won best coffee in Redding in 2022. It was just what we needed to fuel us with energy for the rest of the long day ahead of us. My latte was able to get me through the 10 hour drive back home without making me feel jittery which was impressive.

Thank you Theory Coffee Roasters for having us! We really loved your coffee and hope to come back in the future.

After our caffeine fix, we went to check out McArthur-Burney Falls. This was by far my favorite part of the trip! It was a 1 hour and 15 minute drive from Redding, but it was worth it because the waterfall looks so much more beautiful and bigger in person than I imagined. Parking is limited and we used our parks pass here too. Come early if you want to get parking, we got here around 8:30am and it was starting to get full. During the accessible and paved walk, you are able to feel a slight mist from the waterfall. At the bottom, you can go through the rocks and go into the water. It was freezing that morning so we just enjoyed it from afar. We then continued on to the 1-mile loop hike. This part of the trail was not very stroller friendly in my opinion, but I did see people with their stroller so it is doable. There are beautiful bridges and benches along the way to help enjoy the river and the view. Soon after, we got back on the road towards SoCal with beautiful memories of Redding.
