Things to do in Laramie, WY - an underrated tiny fun town.
Saturday
You have two options to get to Laramie. If you are on a time crunch and prefer to get to Laramie faster and are willing to spend a little more money, you can fly straight to the Laramie Regional Airport. The airport is tiny and the only airline is United, but it saves you time. On the other side, if you have time, fly into the DIA and rent a car. The drive is pretty far (3 hours), but it saves you some money and gives you a chance to explore Colorado too.
If you decide to drive, on the way to Laramie stop by to have brunch in Fort Collins at The Farmhouse. The food is yummy and there are a couple of cute little shops around the restaurant. Before heading out, stop by to see the beautiful Flower Trial Garden. From Fort Collins to Laramie, it is about a 1 hour drive. Then head straight to the Laramie Territorial Prison. Spoiler: the prison does not actually house prisoners, it was turned into a museum. They even have tour guides as well. You get to see the prison cells and the broom factory.
After the museum, visit the University of Wyoming. Fun Fact: This is the ONLY university in the WHOLE state. Oh, and it is also the highest altitude university in the whole country. Pretty cool right? The campus has beautiful buildings and a large park in the center. There is also a greenhouse and Dinosaur Museum to visit. Best of all, both are free! #GoCowboys
After that, head over to downtown Laramie to walk around. The train station is right behind downtown, so its fun to climb the bridge, see the train pass under your feet, and see the city. For Dinner, I recommend Sweet Melissa's if you like vegan/vegetarian food. If not, head over to Anong's Thai Cuisine for the BEST Mango sticky rice ever. Then walk over to Coal Creek Tap for a beer flight. This place is nice if you want to sit and chat with friends. If you are looking for a more upbeat "club" style bar, head over to the 3 story western style Buckhorn bar. Before heading back to your hotel, I recommend grabbing a spiked slushie to-go from Northdridge Liquor, they are sooo good! (PS. This is the largest liquor store in town).
Sunday
Get up early to explore the beautiful hiking Laramie has to offer. Laramie will forever be my most favorite place to hike. A fun hike is Crow Creek Trail to Hidden Falls which is a short 15 minute drive. They also have kayaking rentals on site. I used a waterproof phone case to make sure I did not drop my phone in the water while kayaking.
After your hike, feed your appetite by visiting Chuckwagon. It is very popular, so expect a wait. But trust me, the food is very good. Before heading out, enjoy the view from LaBonte Park. When there is snow, the park looks beautiful.
If you decided to fly in, then head back to LRA. If you decided to drive, then head over to Downtown Denver. A nice place to visit if you have time is Larimer Square. You can also visit the Big Blue Bear, or the Colorado State Capitol Building. Then off to the airport you go.
