How to spend a day in Encinitas, CA

We drove down to San Diego and got there at around 9am. We started our day at Better Buzz Coffee. There is very little parking so prepare to look around as the location right in the middle of downtown. Overall the drinks were were alright but I would not go back to be honest. Next time we go, I want to try Pannikin Coffee & Tea

While we waited for our coffee, we decided to walk around and window shop. There are many shops and restaurants that smelled very good along the way.

We then headed out to hike Annie's Canyon Trail. Parking was extremely difficult to find as 99% of the homes had a "no parking" sign in front of them, but eventually we were able to parking near N Rios Ave. and Patty Hill Dr.

At first, Annie's Canyon Trail starts off to be your normal average hike. However, about 20 minutes in, you will reach the beginning of the famous trail. There are two options, the "easy" way, that takes you to the part with the pretty view. Or the "difficult" way, which lets you go through the canyon and the stairs. We decided to the do the difficult path because this is the way that takes you the famous part of the hike. The trail leads you through a very, and I mean VERY NARROW path, which then leads you to climb the metal ladders. You are then rewarded with a beautiful view of the San Eligo lagoon and the 5 freeway. The loop hike then guides you back to where you parked. Overall, if you are claustrophobic, I do not recommend this hike. But if you are up for an adventure, this hike is for you! I carried my little one on my chest with this carrier. It was so helpful when climbing up the ladders.

After the hike, we went to the Butterfly Farms, which was my favorite part of the trip. We got a deal on Groupon. They have a greenhouse that is filled with plants and hundreds of butterflies! If you know me, I LOVE butterflies, so I was in heaven. My little one was able to run around and chase the butterflies so it was nice for him too. There are also picnic tables outside where you can bring a your own food to enjoy the view.

We then had a late lunch at The Crack Shack. We loved it! You order your food at the counter outside and then take a seat inside while they bring the food to you. It was very family friendly and they even have a sandbox for the tiny humans to play in. They were voted one of the best restaurants in Encinitas for 2021 and I can see why.

As the day was coming to an end, we headed over to Swamis Beach, but could not find any parking. We headed over to Cardiff State Beach instead. The beach was dog friendly, peaceful and had many rocks to play with. We ended our trip with the beautiful view of the sunset. Encinitas will always have a place in my heart.
